I’d prefer an Australian .com.au domain Most businesses are best off with a .com above — it’s quicker to set up and I can have you live sooner. Australian domains are registered through a separate registry, so I’ll need your ABN and a few extra details, and it adds a day or two.

Treat these as a strong signal, not a promise. Global names (.com, .net, .org, .co) are checked against the registry itself. Australian names are checked a slightly different way, so they show as “looks available” — I confirm those by hand. Either way I verify your name before registering, and if it turns out to be gone I’ll come straight back to you with the closest alternatives.

Which should I pick?

.com is what I’d suggest for most businesses. It’s what people type without thinking, it works anywhere, and I can register it and have you live straight away.

A .com.au makes sense if you only serve Australian customers and want that said up front. It needs your ABN and takes a day or two longer.

You only need one — whichever you pick is the one your customers will learn.
