The build

A website build is a one-off payment of $799 AUD. It covers a custom website, mobile responsive design, a contact/quote form, Google Maps, a Google reviews section, basic local SEO, domain registration and the first 12 months of hosting.

Typical builds are four to five pages, or an equivalent single-page site where that suits the business better. Online shops, custom booking or login systems, logo design and photography aren’t included — I’ll quote those separately before starting.

Changes before launch

One round of changes is part of the build. That means you review the site, send me your notes, and I make them. Further rounds are welcome and I’ll tell you upfront if anything looks like extra work.

Payment

Payment is by card through Stripe. The $799 is due when you’ve seen the site and asked for it to go live. If a demo was built for you and you decide not to proceed, you owe nothing.

Domain and hosting

Your domain is registered for you and held in my registrar account while I look after your site. It is yours: I will transfer it into your own account, free, whenever you ask, and I will release it to you if I ever stop trading. Australian domains (.com.au, .net.au, .au) are registered directly against your ABN, so those name your business as the registrant from the start. Hosting is included for 12 months from the day your site goes live. After that you can take up an optional yearly plan, or move the site and domain elsewhere — I’ll help you transfer at no charge.

You choose your domain name straight after payment. The availability shown on that page is a live check, but it is an indication rather than a reservation — a name is only truly yours once the registry has accepted the registration, and names can be taken by someone else in the meantime, or turn out to be reserved or premium-priced.

If your first choice isn’t available by the time I register it, I’ll register your stated second choice, or work through alternatives with you until we land on one you’re happy with. Australian domains (.com.au, .net.au, .au) can only be registered to a business with an ABN or ACN, and that ABN must be yours.

Optional yearly plans

• $99 a year — hosting and domain renewal.
• $199 a year — the above plus five small changes per year: text changes, photo changes, service or pricing updates, opening-hours changes and other minor content updates. Each request counts as one change. Unused changes don’t roll over. Major redesigns or new functionality are quoted separately.

Plans renew yearly and can be cancelled at any time before the next renewal. Cancelling doesn’t affect your ownership of the website or domain.

Ownership

Once the build is paid for, the website and its content are yours. You own the domain. There is no lock-in, no exclusivity, and nothing that prevents you moving to another developer.

What I need from you

Accurate information about your business. I won’t publish qualifications, licences, awards, guarantees or claims that you haven’t told me you actually hold. You’re responsible for making sure the content and images you supply are yours to use.

Demo websites

Unsolicited demo sites are built from publicly available information and are examples only. They aren’t live on your domain, they don’t imply any endorsement, and they cost you nothing. Ask and I’ll remove one immediately.

Timeframes

I aim to have a first version to you within about a week of receiving your details, and to go live within a few days of payment. These are targets, not guarantees — things like domain registration and content from you can affect them.

Liability

I do my best to keep sites fast, secure and online, but I can’t guarantee uninterrupted hosting, particular search rankings or particular business results. Nothing here limits any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
